Obama Signs Deal to Keep US Presence in Afghanistan until 2024

Read earlier today that Obama had made a surprise visit to Afghanistan to end the occupation.

Then I first saw this headline in my multiple daily headline emails from the Financial Times. As I cannot afford to pay for a subscription, I limit myself to clicking through on articles. FT graciously provides 20 free clicks per month for those of us with limited resources.

So, the FT said tonight:

President Barack Obama made an unannounced visit to Kabul to put pen to a deal on keeping US forces in the country until 2024

I didn’t believe it either. But as usual I did my own damn research. The complete text of the agreement states that it will remain in force until 2024.

See Page 9 of 9.

That fact is conveniently omitted from the White House Press Briefing Sheet.

Whoa.
