Recommended WordPress plugins for simple, effective and secure sites

I have been building websites with open source content management systems (CMS) since 2003. For the last three years, I have been using WordPress exclusively for this purpose. Moreover, I have converted several of my older sites to WP with simple plugins. As a former user of ArtMan, Mambo, Joomla, DruPal, and tester of many other CMS, I found that the communities supporting these CMS were subject to great change. Features were abandoned.

Here I share some plugins that make life easier for the casual blogger and website builder.
