Asian Americans and Muslim Americans voted overwhelmingly for Obama; Rep. Alan Grayson quotes Aerosmith in a new interview (damn boomers!)

Muslim Americans and Asian Americans overwhelmingly voted for Obama this election. I am not surprised. I went back to college full-time in 1998 at UC Santa Barbara. The Honors Program invited me to participate. I gratefully accepted. I told my counselor at my first interview that I felt the need to experience not only my education but the diverse population that a major University offers.
I went on to law school at UC Hastings College of the Law. I swear that there were people who were close to cultures from every inhabited continent in my school. I found out that they were pretty much like me; same goals and aspirations, same human foibles.
Of course, I met some fundamentalists who played by the rules Machiavelli described in his political classic “The Prince.” Of course, that is that the end justifies the means. From that, I witnessed gross violations of civil and human rights in the name of someone’s narrow idea of right and wrong.
I do not believe that anyone’s ideology is more important than my right to exist in peace. I am tired of those people who could never live long enough to productively spend their money. Rather, they spend it buying politicians so they can filch yet more of the public purse.
My favorite campaign emails come from Alan Grayson. Here’s a link to a new interview transcript with the quote at the end.
Alan, here’s a hug!
JOY: Thank you. Thank you, Abe Lincoln. Thank you, Alan Grayson. It’s really a pleasure to speak to you, and congratulations again on your win.
ALAN: Thank you very much.

I’m back in the saddle again.
I’m riding, I’m loading up my pistol.
I’m riding, I really got a fistful.
I’m riding, I’m shining up my saddle.
I’m riding, this snake is gonna rattle.”
– Aerosmith, “Back in the Saddle” (1976).
