The Political Compass

We haven’t been taught about the Political Compass in our educational system. All we know is that there’s a Left and a Right, and that it’s hard to figure out where we lie along that Left-Right spectrum.

We are confused about this because there’s more than just the Left and the Right axis. There’s the Authoritarian and the Libertarian axis as well.

Therefore, there is a Political GRID, not just a line along which we must try to figure out our place. Lack of knowledge of the grid is one of the reasons that there are so many independent voters in the USA, because all we have to choose from is two parties who refuse to acknowledge the existence of the grid.

Compare this to Canada and other Parliamentary governments where many parties provide a place for everyone’s views.
